Well look what’s arriving a bit early this week. This is a special blog as we look ahead to the season of Advent, and since I know it’s a season that is often busy, for lots of reasons, I thought a heads up on some things you might get on your calendar would be helpful, and worth the irregularly scheduled delivery. San Marco Church will be offering opportunities to encourage this season to be one of holy preparation for all of us, alongside whatever else it has in store. Each of you are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope you will join us for some of these unique experiences as we prepare our hearts and minds and faith for Christmas, for the coming of our savior. This Wednesday, November 29, 6:30p in the sanctuary
This is a fun event where we will prepare the sanctuary for the season, literally hanging greens as well as preparing the altar, the Chrismon Tree, and more. There will be snacks, and ways to help for all ages and abilities. Please enter from the main sanctuary entrance (on Lasalle St).
The Glimpsed City, An Advent Worship Experience
This Saturday, December 2, 7:30p at Riverside Park United Methodist Church
This special worship opportunity is being offered by neighboring Riverside Park United Methodist Church, was developed and will be led by two couples, David and Brandy Henderson of Riverside Park, and our own Bryan and Sheridan Amerling. By way of description and invitation, this is how they have described it: “We see that things are not as they could be and we are drawn forward by hope of something better, but in the meantime know that things will be ok as long as we are together. As we move toward the realization of the kingdom of God, we can reflect the with-ness that Jesus modeled.”
Christmas Gathering
Sunday, December 17, following worship in the parlor
Come sing, eat, socialize, and celebrate the season with others after worship! This promises to be a fun time of good music and good company, and we’ll share details and opportunities as it nears. Plan to stick around after the benediction and enjoy!
The Longest Night
Thursday, December 21, 6:30p in the sanctuary
Some come to this season and sing that it’s “the most wonderful time of the year” at the top of their lungs. But not all. Whether this is the first Christmas without someone we love, or we’re hurting from another loss, or maybe it manages to unearth another struggle... This special worship service faithfully acknowledges the reality of darkness on the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, and the promise of God’s presence with us.
Christmas Eve Evening Worship
Sunday, December 24, 7:00p in the sanctuary
The fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated in our 11a worship service in the morning, and we hope you’ll return in the evening for a special celebration of Christmas and the coming of our savior. I look forward to sharing this special service, a culmination of the Advent season, with you and others.
